A heavy price: Two decades of war, wariness and the post-9/11 security state

Former US President Donald Trump has said that the Afghan people have paid an important price within the two-decade-long war.

We started the war in Afghanistan and overthrew al Qaeda, the Biden administration withdrew troops from Afghanistan and therefore the Taliban came to power,” former US President Donald Trump said during a statement.

The former US president said that the Afghan people have paid an important price within the two-decade-long war.

Former US President Donald Trump added that Joe Biden and therefore the incompetent administration surrendered after 20 years of war.

NEW: Pres. Trump talks to me outside an NYPD Precinct in Manhattan, showing his support for our first responders on @newsmax ; this, on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

Three days after the attacks, the Senate and therefore the House voted to authorize the president to use military unit to retaliate against the perpetrators and avert future acts of terrorism. The key 60-word provision granted the president the only power to work out which “nations, organizations or persons … planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist attacks … or harbored such organizations or persons.”

It is almost impossible to overstate the degree to which Americans were shaken by the attacks — and unified in their fear, desire for revenge and insistence on preventive measures to thwart terrorism. The country had just endured the bloodiest day on U.S. soil since Pearl Harbor , and therefore the ongoing threat appeared more exotic and imminent — stateless terrorists’ striking the mainland — than that posed by the overseas Axis powers in war II.

Only one lawmaker in either chamber voted no: Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif. She would get death threats for her opposition to the war in Afghanistan.

“This unspeakable act on the us has forced me … to believe my moral compass, my conscience and my God for direction,” Lee said on the House floor. “Sept. 11 changed the planet . Our deepest fears now haunt us. Yet i’m convinced that action won’t prevent further acts of terrorism against the us .”
